Reduces Friction, Heat and Wear

In high heat conditions, engine protection is not sacrificed with AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oil. It has exceptional high-temperature film strength and contains a heavy treatment of anti-wear additives to reduce wear regardless of operating conditions. AMSOIL SAE 60 Motorcycle Oil is thermally (heat) stable and contains maximum levels of oxidation inhibitor additives. Motorcycles are prone to rust from storage, humidity and short drives. Rust can cause major damage such as roller bearing failure, uncontrolled wear, compression loss and blow-by. Good rust protection, however, comes by design and is not natural to engine oils. Unlike many motorcycle oils, AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oil contains special anti-rust agents.

For product service life in non-differential applications, consult owner’s manual or the OEM for either normal or severe synthetic oil service intervals. Where service intervals are unavailable, drain at twice the interval for conventional oil.

Gear oils should be changed more frequently when operating vehicles or equipment in dusty or dirty conditions unless the gear system is properly sealed and equipped with membrane type breathers.

Note: AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where water contamination occurs. Check and service the gear oil frequently when water contamination is possible.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Recommended for use in differentials, manual transmissions and other gear applications requiring any of the following specifications: API GL-5, MT-1, MIL-PRF-2105E, Dana SHAES 234 (Formerly Eaton PS-037), Mack GO-J, or the differential (hypoid) gear oil specifications from all domestic and foreign manufacturers such as GM, Ford and Daimler Chrysler. Can also be used in axles where an API GL-4 lubricant is recommended.

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® (75W-90) provides superior performance and replaces competitors’ 75W-90 and 80W-90 gear oils. It delivers the best fuel efficiency and cold temperature performance of the Sever Gear oils.

AMSOIL Severe Gear is compatible with conventional and synthetic gear oils. Mixing AMSOIL gear oils with other oils, however, will shorten the oil life expectancy and reduce the performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed.

Aftermarket oil additives, other than those specified by AMSOIL, are not recommended for use with AMSOIL gear oil.

Formulated with wax-free synthetic base oils and high quality additives, AMSOIL 80W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube resists thermal breakdown. Its naturally high viscosity index and shear stable construction improves film strength and viscosity retention. AMSOIL 80W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube prevents wear, resists heat, and protects gears. It is fortified with extreme pressure (EP) additives for superior protection of fast-accelerating, high-torque/horsepower engines. It protects against shock loading from cavitation of heavily loaded engines.

AMSOIL Synthetic Marine Gear Lube is water resistant. It maintains extreme-pressure protection even when contaminated with as much as 10% water. It promotes longer seal life to help prevent water contaimantion. AMSOIL Synthetic Marine Gear Lube is designed to prevent rust and is compatible with aluminum, copper and brass alloys.

APPLICATIONS

AMSOIL Synthetic Marine Gear Lube is recommended for fresh and salt water applications requiring either 75W-90 or 80W-90 viscosity grade and meeting either API GL-4 or GL-5 performance standards.

Marine gear oils operate in environments subject to water contamination. The chart demonstrates the ability of AMSOIL Synthetic Marine Gear Lube to maintain designed qualities such as extreme-pressure/anti-wear performance and resis-tance to foaming, even when subjected to 10 percent water contamination.

The Falex Procedure is a measurement of a gear lube’s extreme-pressure and anti-wear properties. A high value in the Falex Extreme-Pressure Test relates to extra extreme-pressure protection. AMSOIL Synthetic Marine Gear Lube provides extreme-pressure protection and is highly resistant to the effects of water contamination.

The presence of foam in a lubricant disrupts oil film and promotes wear. Water contamination can increase the likelihood of foaming. Industry standard testing demonstrates zero foam in both new and water-contaminated AMSOIL Synthetic Marine Gear Lube.

AMSOIL Synthetic Marine Gear Lube is compatible with other commercially available conventional and synthetic marine gear lubes.

Note: Follow manufacturers’ recommended service intervals. It is generally a good idea to change gear lube at the end of a season prior to storage.

When making a turn, the outer wheels of a vehicle must travel faster than the inner wheels. It is up to the differential to act as a balance arm, establishing constant equilibrium of torques and forces between the left-hand and right-hand driven wheels. In standard (or open) differentials, power is directed to the wheel offering the least resistance. This works well when making a turn, but in a situation where one wheel is lifted off the ground, it causes the suspended wheel to turn while the other remains motionless.

Limited-Slip (or Positraction) and Locking Differentials

Limited-slip (or positraction) and locking differentials are traction-increasing devices. Locking differentials transfer all available torque to both wheels. The teeth of the spider assembly engage with those on the locker clutch, causing both axle shafts to operate as one. Locking differentials don’t allow one drive wheel to spin while the other remains stationary. Instead, they keep both wheels in drive mode, but unlock to permit different wheel speeds when turning. The engaging and disengaging of the teeth on automatic locking differentials often causes a banging and clunking sound. Manual locking differentials usually use an electric motor or vacuum diaphragm to engage the locker, reducing this noise.

Limited-slip differentials allow different wheel speeds when turning, but when one wheel loses traction, greater torque is transferred to the wheel offering more resistance. Limited-slip differentials make use of friction between clutch plates, as opposed to the meshing teeth employed by locking differentials. Transferring less torque per side, limited-slip differentials are generally smoother and quieter than locking differentials, but still sometimes “chatter” when transferring torque to the wheel with traction.

In some differential applications, a friction modifier additive is necessary to reduce chatter. AMSOIL Slip Lock Differential Additive is formulated with advanced friction modifiers and is designed to eliminate gear-housing chatter in cars, trucks and SUVs equipped with limited-slip, positraction and locking differentials. It also reduces the banging and clunking associated with automatic locking differentials.

AMSOIL Slip Lock Differential Additive is formulated for use with both synthetic and petroleum gear lubricants and safely replaces manufacturer recommended friction modifiers. Its convenient flip-top dispenser provides quick and easy application to the gear housing. One four-ounce bottle of Slip Lock treats differential capacities of two to four quarts. It is not for use in automatic transmissions or other applications requiring ATF.
